The 20th Anniversary Memorial -
First Week of July 1996
Organized by the Argentine Pallottine Community, a
week-long homage took place at different venues in Argentina. The most salient
activities were:
July 3: "A Voice
Screaming to Heaven" is performed at St. Patrick's
Carlos Salum's play "A Voice
Screaming to Heaven" ("La Voz Que Grita al Cielo") was performed for an
audience of 400 people at the site of the original St. Patrick's church, before the temple
was built in 1957. Due to the interest generated by the play, additional performaces
took place on July 6 and 13.
July 4: The Silent March and
the Mass
The Pallottine Community of St. Patrick's organized
a Silent March around the temple, followed by approximately 500 people. The march
concluded with the celebration of a multitudinary mass attended by over 1,000 people.
The City of Buenos Aires names a
street after the Pallottine Martyrs
After two decades of silence, the City of Buenos Aires'
representatives voted unanimously to honor the Five Martyrs by changing the name of the
street "Sancti Spiritu" to "Pallottine Martyrs." The street is
located 200 meters from the entrance of St. Patrick's church. The official name
change took place during the Silent March, by placing a bronze plaque in an intersection.
July 5: Gabriel Seisdedos'
presents his book "The Honor Of God"
The result of three years of courageous investigative
reporting, "The Honor Of God" was presented in the temple, with an attendance of
friends of the martyrs, their families, religious authorities, and politicians.
Eduardo Kimel presents his book's
second edition, "The Massacre At St. Patrick's"
The author of the first journalistic investigation, Kimel
prepared a second edition of his book to be released at the annual Book Fair of Buenos
Aires. Lohle/Lumen Editors organized a speaking tour and supported Kimel during his
legal ordeal against one of the judges who intervened in the Pallottines' case.
